If you are trying to figure out the best time of the year for your family to follow through with that up and coming move that you have been planning, then you may be thinking about going with summer time. There are plenty of good things about moving during the summer and plenty of negative aspects as well. You really need to give some thought to whether the positives outweigh the negatives before you start looking at new home construction for sale or open rentals. Here are some things you should think about when you are considering a summertime move:
Children can start a new school on the first day
One of the reasons a lot of people like to move during the summertime is it allows their children to then start the next school year on the first day of school with everyone else. This can be a much easier transition for them. Since all of the kids will be new to their classroom on that same day, your child won't have to worry about standing out and being the 'new kid' which can be awkward, especially for shy children.
You won't have to deal with bad weather
The chances of dealing with bad weather while you are moving in the summertime is a lot less likely than if you chose to move during the wintertime. While you may have to move your belongings on a hotter day than you would like, you won't have to worry about your boxes getting rained or snowed on, people slipping on wet or icy ground and even driving a moving truck in severe weather conditions. In this respect, moving during the summer is safer.
It can be harder to find a place
Depending on the area you are moving to, it can be harder for you to find a place during the summertime. There will be move applicants for rentals and more offers being made on homes that are up for sale. Therefore, if you have things to worry about that make you a less than perfect candidate, then you may want to put off your move until winter when there won't be as much competition for a place you want.
It can be more difficult to get rentals for the dates you want
If you are going to be renting a moving truck and other moving supplies, you may find that the renting companies are already out of trucks and other supplies for your dates. However, you can generally prevent this problem from occurring by reserving your rentals far in advance. This can be difficult for most people though, since you may not know the exact moving date that far in advance.
